Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa Declares Interest in Kogi East Senatorial Seat, Begins Wide Consultations

On January 15, 2026, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa formally declared his interest to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat, marking a major step in a long-held political vision formed in service, policy, and people-centred leadership.

Speaking during the declaration and after his presentation to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders of Ankpa local government area, Dr. Alfa noted that his decision to seek elective office was not sudden. He described it as the outcome of over three decades of engagement in governance, public policy, and political development, largely from behind the scenes.

“For more than 30 years, I have worked within the policy and advisory space, contributing ideas, frameworks, and strategies that support governance and development. At this point in my life, I believe the time has come to move from advising to directly serving the people,” he said.

Dr. Alfa, a founding and long-standing funding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressed that his political journey has always been guided by party loyalty, ideological consistency, and commitment to democratic growth. He explained that his aspiration is driven by the need to bring experienced, issue-based representation to Kogi East at the national level.

Following his declaration, Dr. Alfa embarked on extensive consultations across Kogi East Senatorial District. These engagements included meetings with traditional rulers, party leaders, elders, youth groups, women leaders, professionals, and other key stakeholders.

According to him, the consultations were not mere formalities, but genuine listening tours aimed at understanding the real concerns, hopes, and expectations of the people.

“Our people want representation that understands policy, but also understands daily realities. These consultations are helping to shape a people-driven agenda, not a personal ambition,” he stated.

Stakeholders who interacted with him described the engagements as calm, respectful, and focused on issues such as security, economic inclusion, education, youth empowerment, and Kogi East’s voice in national decision-making.

Addressing the recurring question of “why politics?”, Dr. Alfa explained that policy influence without direct representation has its limits.

“There comes a point when ideas need a seat at the table. Kogi East deserves a senator who understands how policies are made, how resources are negotiated, and how national power truly works,” he said.

He added that his aspiration is based on preparation, experience, and a clear understanding of Nigeria’s political and legislative processes.

Dr. Alfa reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and his belief in internal party processes. He emphasised that his aspiration would follow due process, guided by consultation, consensus, and respect for party structures.

As consultations continue, he called on the people of Kogi East to remain engaged, united, and hopeful, assuring them that his journey is one of service, not self-interest.

“This is about Kogi East, its future, and its rightful place in Nigeria’s development story,” he concluded.
